The National Qualifications Framework Explained

The National Qualifications Framework (NQF) serves as a comprehensive guide, establishing the boundaries, principles, and guidelines that form the foundation and structure for a system of qualifications. Within these parameters, detailed development and implementation of qualifications take place. This framework encompasses all education and training in South Africa, ensuring that it fits within a unified and recognized structure.

Being national in scope, the NQF acts as a valuable national asset, reflecting a collective endeavor to merge education and training into a cohesive system of acknowledged qualifications. It operates as a framework of qualifications, essentially serving as a registry of learner achievements.

The NQF sets forth a series of principles and guidelines that govern the registration of learner achievements, facilitating the national acknowledgment of skills and knowledge acquired. This approach fosters an integrated system that promotes lifelong learning, aiming to enhance personal development and professional advancement across the nation.
